See The Chevrolet Suburban Z71 In All Its Glory

May. 31, 2020 8:40 PM ET by Sebastian Cenizo Reveal / 8 Comments SUVs just got a whole lot more badass. The Chevrolet Suburban is the brand's versatile full-size SUV, but it was getting a bit long in the tooth. Luckily, the 2021 Suburban has been revealed and seems to be completely modernized in all the right ways. This week, we reported that the online configurator is now live, giving us an idea of how much it and its Tahoe stablemate will cost in various configurations. The one that most gearheads and off-road enthusiasts are most excited about, however, is the Z71. Now, we have images this top trim and it looks mean, capable, and big - all the things that the suburban is famous for. Chevrolet Chevrolet Chevrolet Compared to the regular Suburban, pictured below in white, the Z71 looks aggressive and purposeful. Tow hooks are fitted to the front and rear fascias and are finished in red, while a massive grille and a bash plate for dealing with obstacles on the trail further characterize the front end of the new SUV. It's powered by a 5.3-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, while gear changes are handled by a 10-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels via a two-speed transfer case. In addition, the Z71 gets hill descent control, which isn't available with the LT variant. Chevrolet Chevrolet Chevrolet As good as this new Z71 trim of the wildly popular Suburban appears to be, some have asked for a diesel variant. Loads of torque, better fuel economy, and the famous power of a Duramax engine would be a wonderful addition to the range, but we recently learned that this won't happen, at least not yet. Does this matter? Not really. The Suburban and Tahoe, whether in regular or in Z71 spec, will almost certainly sell like hotcakes. As rivals like the GMC Yukon, Cadillac Escalade, and Ford Expedition all scramble to be the best, the Z71's attractive new look could swing the tide in favor of Chevy. Chevrolet
