Rivian Plots New Way To Challenge Tesla

Tesla has a near decade-long headstart over rival automakers in not only electric vehicle technologies, but also with its charging network. Being able to charge your EV outside of the home when traveling is a basic essential. Now that rival brands have jumped into the EV mix, they're also setting up networks. Volkswagen, for example, has its Electrify America charging network and Porsche Taycan owners can even power up their cars at Porsche dealerships. But there's a certain other EV-only automaker with big plans of its own that's apparently luring away Tesla employees to make its goal a reality. According to Electrek, electric pickup truck and SUV maker Rivian has been laying the groundwork for what it's dubbed the "Rivian Adventure Network". Rivian Rivian Rivian Rivian One of the first steps was hiring the right people, specifically those who previously worked on Tesla's Supercharging network. One such hire, which happened in March, is Carrington Bradley, who worked at Tesla for seven years serving as a manager in the charging program. He's now Rivian's senior manager of charging development. Another expert Rivian poached from Tesla is Sara Eslinger, who also worked for Lyft. As for the network itself, it'll differ from Tesla's in that it will be rolled out in off-roading locations, such as national parks and RV parks. Rivian Rivian Rivian Rivian These charging stations will supposedly deliver up to 200 kWh, and each one can charge two vehicles at once. It's also important to remember that future Rivian R1T and R1S owners will have access to all third-party networks equipped with CCS charging ports. Rivian's network, unlike any other, will focus on those remote locations adventure-seekers populate. One such charging location will reportedly be located in Moab, Utah.
