The all-new 2021 BMW 4 Series coupe has arrived and although this styling isn't expected to expand across the entire BMW lineup, it will definitely be a source of discussion for the foreseeable future. It's simply one of those love it or hate it design choices. Looking past it and to the actual 4 Series trims, there was one model the German automaker made no mention of, the M440i rear-wheel-drive. The M440i detailed in the official press release is all-wheel-drive, aka the xDrive. Does this mean no RWD variant is planned? BMW BMW BMW BWW Blog has learned from the automaker that there will indeed be a RWD M440i but it won't be available when the 4 Series hits the market this October. BMW's engineering team is still at work on the M440i RWD and its debut is not expected until sometime next year. BMW didn't provide precise details about the car, but it's fair to assume it'll come powered by the same 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Like the M440i xDrive, the RWD variant should also receive the 48-volt electrical system for added power and improved efficiency. However, the M440i RWD could very well be the choice of enthusiasts who don't want the also upcoming and all-powerful M4. BMW BMW BMW BMW You see, the M440i xDrive's AWD system, while great for traction and off-the-line grip and acceleration, adds to the coupe's weight. Taking it away and sticking with the CLAR platform's base RWD setup will not only lower curb weight but also contribute to faster sprint times. The M440i xDrive, according to BMW, can go from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, so figure closer to 4 seconds flat for the RWD version.
