The Ford Mach 1' s Grille Hides An Interesting Secret

Just like the original 1969 model, the 2021 Mach 1 fills the gap between the Mustang GT and the specialized Shelby models. It now features a 5.0-liter V8 producing 480 horsepower, which is 20 hp more than the standard GT. Ford has also given the car parts from the Shelby GT350 to improve cooling as well as the GT350's Tremec manual transmission. We have no doubt that the Mach 1 will be a beast around a race track but it also looks the part. Ford has given the car a completely unique look with functional downforce that revives an old-school Mustang styling element: the quad headlights. Well, sort of. Ford Ford Ford If you look closely at the new Mach 1, you will see that the two circles in the grille are actually filled in with black plastic. In the press photos for the car, Ford has shown the new car next to the original Mach 1, which features two lights integrated into the grille. We assume those slots were left blank on the new car in order to save weight but if you prefer to have four headlights, Ford has included a solution from the factory. "You can 'pop out' the round parts of the grille and do your own lighting customization," Ford spokesperson Mike Levin told CarBuzz. We bet it will only be a matter of time until aftermarket companies start selling specially designed lighting kits for the Mach 1. Ford Ford Ford We also wouldn't be surprised if the yet-to-be-announced 2021 Ford Mustang GT brings back the quad headlight design with two lights in the grille that was last seen on the 2014 model. When this current sixth-generation Mustang debuted back in 2015, it abandoned the four headlight layout in favor of just two lights.
