Brand-New Toyota Supra Meets Its End During Test Drive

Jun. 17, 2020 2:01 PM ET by Jared Rosenholtz Crash / 17 Comments Sadly, it resulted in injuries. Crashing a brand-new sports car is never a fun experience but when it's on a test drive, the feeling is especially painful. While test driving a brand-new 2020 Toyota Supra, a driver in Long Island, New York lost control and pinned the car against a tree. The accident took place on Cathedral Avenue, just one mile away from Millennium Toyota. A dealership license plate was even spotted on the back of the vehicle. The Garden City Fire Department posted images of the aftermath on July 9, with a brief description of the accident. "Earlier this afternoon members of GCFD along with NCPD-ESU extricated the passenger of a vehicle involved in motor vehicle accident on Cathedral Avenue. The victim with serious leg injuries was transported by NYU-Langone EMS to Winthrop Hospital," the statement reads. https://www.facebook.com/gcfdny/posts/3321710134539115 Garden City Fire Department / Facebook Garden City Fire Department / Facebook The speed of the accident was not specified but it was fast enough to send one of the wheels flying over 100 feet from the rest of the car. With 335 horsepower from a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six going to the rear wheels only, the Supra can get up to speed with haste and lose traction just as quickly. As you can see from the photos, the car will clearly be totaled. There is no word on the driver's condition but the fire department says the passenger (possibly the salesperson) was trapped and needed to be removed with special tools. The passenger was then taken to the hospital for serious leg injuries but it is unknown if the driver suffered injuries as well. It is also unknown if either person worked for the dealership. Garden City Fire Department / Facebook Garden City Fire Department / Facebook Situations like this are proof of why drivers need to educate themselves on how to drive a sports car properly and in safe conditions. Public roads are not a proper outlet for driving quickly and should be reserved for the race track. We now live in a time where buyers can walk into a dealership and leave with a 700 hp car. It has never been more important for drivers to learn how to use their sports cars safely.
