Germany Turns Tesla Model 3 Into Serious Off-Roader

Jun. 18, 2020 1:30 PM ET by Jay Traugott Electric Vehicles / 2 Comments Why bother getting a Cybertruck? This isn't the first time we've seen German aftermarket tuning company Delta 4x4 take a series production vehicle and give it the off-road treatment. One previous example? The Ford Ranger. However, its latest project is dramatically different. Commissioned by a Norwegian owner, this Tesla Model 3 has been turned into a serious off-roader and the final result looks pretty darn good and rugged. "This iconic electric car is not well suited for the Nordic terrain," the company said. "The Tesla's batteries situated deep down in the vehicle can make driving in this at times unpredictable environment almost catastrophic." To prevent any catastrophe, the company started off by raising the Model 3 with a 35 mm suspension lift kit for improved ground clearance. If you like what you see, the company says the lift kit and wheels are available to order. Combined with the roof rack, the end result actually looks pretty good. The Model 3 already gets pretty great range anyway - up to 322 miles for the Long Range version - so owners shouldn't worry about going on some grand off-road adventure. But how much will these accessories set you back? The good news is not much at all. Delta 4x4 Delta 4x4 Delta 4x4 Delta 4x4 The lift kit costs about $540 (480 euros) while the wheel set, which includes Cooper 245/45R18 tires, begins at $1,685 (1,500 euros). Those tires with the cool-looking FlangeLock-protected Klassik B wheels will set you back $2,180 (2,500 euros), though assembly isn't included. Given that Tesla customers typically love to tack on additional software features costing thousands of dollars, why not opt for some reasonably-priced apocalypse-ready off-road hardware as well? Delta 4x4 is definitely an expert in off-roading accessories, so its gear is legit. Just be sure to bring a good old fashioned paper map with you. Not all off-road destinations are accessible via GPS navigation. Delta 4x4 Delta 4x4 Delta 4x4 Delta 4x4 Delta 4x4 Delta 4x4
