Nissan Pickup Truck Packs 1 000-HP GT-R Engine

May. 28, 2020 1:20 PM ET by Martin Bigg Tuning / 7 Comments We never knew we wanted a GT-R-powered Nissan pickup truck. Nissan GT-R engine swaps are nothing new. We've seen Nissan's flagship 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 get stuffed into a Toyota 86 to give the entry-level sports car a substantial power boost, as just a more recent example, while older Z cars have also received the same augmentation. But what if the Nissan GT-R's glorious 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 was transplanted into a pickup truck? The UK's SB Motorsport, which has previously built an insane Nissan GT-R Drift car, wants to find out and is "taking full advantage of workshop downtime" during the coronavirus lockdown by building a GT-R-powered Nissan Navara pickup truck. In the US, the Nissan Navara's closest equivalent model is the Nissan Frontier. SB Motorsport SB Motorsport SB Motorsport In the team's most challenging build project to date, the Nissan Navara's diesel engine will be replaced with the GT-R's 3.8-liter V6, which will be tuned to produce over 1,000 horsepower. And yes, it will still be road legal. It will also share the GT-R's chassis, all-wheel-drive system, and a modified version of the GT-R's dual-clutch transmission. "This project has always been on the cards for SB Motorsport, ever since our initial GT-R project. With racing currently on hold this was the break we needed to re-visit the idea and bring it to fruition," said SB Motorsport founder, Stephen "Baggsy" Biagioni. "We have the best partners and they share our vision to create another great vehicle that will challenge the normalities of what's possible, this is going to be an exciting mix of performance meets practicality." SB Motorsport SB Motorsport SB Motorsport "The Navara-R as we have already dubbed it, will challenge our in-house know-how. With this build, the aim is to keep the Navara road-legal, all the mod-cons of the vehicle, rather than creating a race-car chassis with minimal extras. I'm confident in our team here at SB Motorsport, and honestly excited to see the development and work alongside our partners, who happen to be the world's leading experts in their respected fields." All the components are left over from the firm's Nissan GT-R drift car and a new KW suspension kit is being installed. Preview renders supplied by SB Motorsport show the finished project will sport an aggressive body kit featuring a front splitter, lowered suspension, and a large rear wing. SB Motorsport aims to complete the Navara-R by the end of the year. We never knew we wanted a 1,000-hp GT-R-powered Nissan pickup, but we do now.
