The Future Of The Chevy Camaro Doesn' t Look Good

Although the sixth generation of the Chevrolet Camaro isn't exactly ancient, with sales beginning in 2015, talk of the newer seventh-generation model has swirled around for a while now. We know that the next-gen Camaro could transition to a fully electric powertrain, but we may have to take a step back from these specifics and once again question whether the all-new Camaro will see the light of day at all. According to a report by Motortrend, rumors suggest that the initial phase of work on the 2023 Camaro has been halted. Chevrolet Chevrolet Chevrolet Rather than dedicate resources to the development of the new Camaro, Chevrolet is said to be working instead on extending the life of the current model. The sixth-gen Camaro is not expected to stick around beyond 2023 due to the demise of the current GM Alpha Platform, along with the news that the car's chief engineer has been moved to the team working on electric vehicles. Add to all of this continued dwindling sales for the Camaro, and it doesn't bode well for the arrival of a brand new model in 2023. But until GM confirms the discontinuation of the popular nameplate, there's hope that the Camaro will live on in a new model. A leaked order guide from earlier this year revealed that the 2021 model will have expanded availability of the 10-speed automatic transmission along with a few tweaks to the available packages. With its athletic handling and powerful engines, there's still a lot to like about the current Camaro. Let's just hope that it's not the last of its kind and that a worst-case scenario would see the seventh-gen model being delayed by a further year or two.
