Amazing Bugatti Concept Debuts After Five Years Of Hiding

The 2020 Bugatti Centodieci was designed to be a limited edition homage to the Bugatti EB100 of the 1990s. The car certainly looked more bespoke than some of the company's other creations but it isn't nearly as outrageous as another Bugatti homage than never saw the light of day. Five years ago, a Dutch designer named Andries van Overbeeke participated in a 15-week internship at Bugatti where he worked on an incredibly cool project. "We created a successor to the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo, aimed to be raced in PlayStation's Gran Turismo," van Overbeeke told Carbuzz. "The car is a modern-day revival of the Bugatti Type 35, the most successful race car in history." Andries van Overbeeke Andries van Overbeeke Andries van Overbeeke This unnamed Bugatti design bears some resemblance to the Type 35 with a long nose and short tapered rear, which is visible on the light blue cockpit. Putting such a design into production would be tricky but we have seen similar efforts with the Aston Martin Valkyrie. "The car was intended as a successor to the Bugatti Vision GT and to race in Gran Turismo, but so far the car is not yet in any game," van Overbeeke explained. "I don't know what Bugatti is planning." Even though the design was meant for a video game, van Overbeeke stressed that "the packaging of the car is realistic. The car was built around a combustion engine (see the exhaust on the car): high revving, raw and loud." While the type of engine is unspecified, the car is confirmed to have a 100-liter (26-gallon) fuel tank. Bugatti Andries van Overbeeke Andries van Overbeeke We think this type of vehicle could be perfect for the Bugatti brand because it pays homage to the company's history while also offering what appears to be a pinnacle level of performance. Sadly, van Overbeeke explained that "it's pretty normal in the car industry [for] projects to get canceled," even referring some of Bugatti's unreleased concepts that were shown off earlier in 2020. It will be interesting to see if this awesome design is ever put into a Gran Turismo game or better yet, turned into a production car.
