Hyundai' s Freaky New Tucson Could Be Arriving Very Soon

The 2020 Hyundai Tucson won't be the first vehicle you think of when someone mentions bold and outrageous styling. But Hyundai's vice president of design, SangYup Lee, has proclaimed that the next-generation Tuscon will be something "the whole world will freak out over." After seeing Hyundai's latest bold creations like the new Elantra and concept vehicles like the 45 and Prophecy, we are willing to take Lee's statement more seriously. We last spotted Hyundai testing a prototype of the next-generation Tucson last year but now the car has been spotted once again in the form of two camouflaged prototypes. Much to our surprise, these latest test mules are actually fitted with heavier camo than before but that hasn't stopped us from spotting a few new details. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Up front, we are expecting the Tucson to adopt the familial split headlight design, as seen on Hyundai's most recent SUVs including the Venue, Kona, Santa Fe, and Palisade. These new photos show off full LED headlights, which could be an option on higher trim versions of the new Tucson. The rear end is covered in extensive black cladding but we can still spot what appears to be a connected taillight design that wasn't visible on the previous spy shots. These could be the production headlights and taillights, meaning a debut might be imminent. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz The next-generation Hyundai Tucson is expected to arrive sporting a new Theta3 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine likely producing the same 191 horsepower that it makes in the latest Sonata. Front-wheel-drive should be the standard drivetrain with optional all-wheel-drive along with the possibility of 1.6-liter and/or 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine options. The United States could also receive a Tucson Hybrid, powered by the same 2.0-liter found in the Sonata Hybrid. We expect Hyundai to reveal the Tucson later in 2020 with an on-sale date in 2021. If a hybrid version is bound for the US, it could be revealed at a later date. CarBuzz CarBuzz
