LEAKED This Is The New BMW M4 You Aren' t Meant To See Yet
Jun. 05, 2020 3:50 AM ET by Karl Furlong Spy Shots / 27 Comments Are the M-specific changes different enough? Just days after the opinion-splitting 2021 BMW 4 Series was officially unveiled, the high-performance version of BMW's coupe has been leaked in a single photo. Yes, this is the new BMW M4, minus any hint of camouflage besides a tiny piece of sticky tape. As expected, the colossal kidney grille completely dominates the front of the car in the leaked image, which was shared by a Bimmer Post forum member, then rendered by another member in several colors. Unlike on the regular 4 Series, the M4's grille gets horizontal, darkened slats, replacing the brighter mesh treatment used on the coupe which was revealed earlier this week, and having more in common with the 4 Series featuring M Performance Parts. This M4 also does without the bright grille surround of the standard 4 Series. Bimmer Post Silber via Bimmer Post The other changes include a different front bumper with vertical vents and a more defined front lip. Overall, the face isn't drastically different from the standard 4 Series, but then again, M cars tend to rely on smaller detailed changes rather than a fundamentally different design than the cars they're based on, anyway. A new rendering of the upcoming M5 is another example of this. Along the sides, we can see more prominent sills and black alloy wheels, along with M-specific wing mirrors. Again, nothing about it is especially shocking, but maybe we've all been numbed after seeing the regular 4 Series a few days ago. Silber via Bimmer Post Silber via Bimmer Post Silber via Bimmer Post As we found out recently, the new BMW M4 is slated for a full reveal - alongside the new M3 sedan - in September this year. It will be powered by the same 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that does duty in the X3 M and X4 M SUVs, which produces over 500 horsepower in Competition spec. Both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations will be offered, as will a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or a dual-clutch automatic. When the first-gen M4 arrived, it didn't strike the same high notes as the previous M3s due to its disappointing engine note and nervous dynamics. The new M4's battle seems to be in convincing buyers that its bold new look will become less shocking with time. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Source Credits: Bimmer Post Join The Discussion

An E23 BMW 7 Series was the first car he fell madly in love with three decades ago, and this affection for Autobahn-conquering luxury sedans has persisted. Following studies in copywriting and journalism, along with stints in TV scriptwriting and marketing that had far too little to do with cars, Karl kept the fire burning by writing for automotive websites on the side, including a Florida-based auto repair shop and another for Porsche enthusiasts.
