Ram' s Raptor Fighter Officially Has A Production Start Date

May. 11, 2020 3:51 PM ET by Jay Traugott Trucks / 4 Comments Will your Ram dealer be allocated any? We know for a fact the Ford F-150 Raptor-fighting Ram Rebel TRX is on the way. Despite the original concept first being shown all the way back in 2016, FCA has since decided this Hellcat-powered hardcore off-roader needs to become a production reality. It'll be nearly impossible to find anyone who will disagree. The original plan was to debut the production version at this year's Detroit Auto Show in June, but that even has since been canceled. At the moment, we still don't know when that debut has been rescheduled for, though a June reveal is still rumored. In the meantime, Mopar Insiders has found out when production will get underway. That will happen this coming September or October and dealerships are now being informed of this. Ram Ram Ram What does this mean for anyone anxious to buy one? They probably ought to pick up the phone and call their local Ram dealer and ask if they've been allocated any and whether they're available. Until that official reveal happens, we can only speculate on the TRX's details. Previous reports indicate it'll be powered by the familiar 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 with a total of 707 horsepower with power sent to all four wheels through the same ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission found in the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. A four-wheel-drive system will be standard. Additional likely features are Bilstein shocks at all four wheels, upgraded brakes, launch control, and selectable drive modes. Like the Raptor, expect the Rebel TRX to have a lift and wider track than the rest of the Ram 1500 lineup. A unique grille design, hood scoop, badging, and beefy 18-inch wheels are also planned. Ram Ram Ram The interior is set to receive its own list of upgrades, including a center console-mounted shifter, which will be a first for the current generation Ram. Aluminum paddle shifters likely sourced from the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV are also possible, as is a flat-bottom steering wheel. The familiar Uconnect infotainment system will be housed in a 12-inch screen. Underneath that expect to find six large buttons to control the various vehicle functions. Pricing? It's impossible to provide a precise figure, but a good predictor is the Raptor's $53,000 starting price. Hopefully, a full reveal will happen next month so stay tuned and get your checkbooks ready.
