Trailing from Pontiac, through Ferndale, and concluding in Detroit, the Dream Cruise has been known to congregate more than a million spectators at a time. Sadly, in the current climate of social distancing, the risk this event poses is just too great for community leaders to condone its continuation. This may be a dream come true for some of the more crotchety residents of these areas who dread the noise each year. However, car enthusiasts, both local and abroad, may be robbed of the chance to show off their prized collectibles. Even Mayor Bob Paul of Huntington Woods, proud owner of a 1962 MGA, is disappointed by the need to take such action.

However, despite active discouragement from city officials and the supposed 'un-promoting' that Dream Cruise has promised to engage in, we have a feeling not everyone will be dissuaded from taking a cruise down the avenue. And, while we love our muscle cars, vintage sports cars, and just about everything in-between, we can't help but feel that we, too, should encourage responsible behavior during this time. It seems that we may have to recant our earlier excitement about the Woodward Dream Cruise. Hopes that the popular yearly event would go ahead amidst the coronavirus pandemic may be dashed as cities along the signature highway vote on whether or not to cancel. Detroit City Free Press has reported that some of these cities have already made their decisions on the matter. Both Birmingham and Huntington Woods voted unanimously in favor of canceling the renowned one-day car show. Ferndale can be expected to cast its vote within the week. The Woodward Dream Cruise is a long-standing tradition within the USA, but it isn't just for Americans.
