Take A Look Inside The New BMW 2 Series

Aug. 06, 2020 9:46 AM ET by Martin Bigg Spy Shots / 2 Comments The interior looks practically identical to the 2 Series Gran Coupe's cabin. There are some exciting new models being developed by BMW right now. We've spied several prototypes of the new M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe undergoing testing over the last few weeks before both models officially debut next month. We recently also got a first look at the next-generation BMW 2 Series Coupe. The current-generation model was introduced way back in 2014, so the time has come for a redesign. Now, our spy photographers have caught BMW testing another 2 Series prototype on the streets of Munich - and this time they managed to get a sneaky peak inside the cabin when the test driver stopped for gas. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Inside, the interior of the next-generation 2 Series looks nearly identical to the 2 Series Gran Coupe, which is based on the front-wheel-drive 1 Series. Everything from the dashboard design, to the design of the air vents and the size of the infotainment screen looks exactly the same. This is disappointing, as we were hoping BMW would distinguish the 2 Series Coupe with a more unique interior. It's worth remembering, however, that this is still a work-in-progress prototype, so the design could still change in the coming months, but the interior looks production-ready. As for the exterior, the BMW 2 Series Coupe prototype is still covered in camouflage. The design details are disguised, but the kidney grilles don't appear to be as oversized as the new controversial 4 Series. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Its muscular fenders, subtle spoiler, and prominent exhaust tips also suggest we're looking at a hotter M performance version of the new 2 Series. And don't worry, the BMW 2 Series will retain the current model's rear-wheel drive layout to keep purists happy. Technical details are still being kept under wraps. Under the hood, the current BMW 2 Series is offered with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo producing 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque in the 230i trim and a 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six with 335 hp and 369 lb-ft. Power can be sent to the rear or all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The next-generation BMW 2 Series is expected to debut next year and go on sale as a 2021 model, followed by the new M2. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz
