Some owners have reported the hood/trunk lid flying open unexpectedly while driving the C8 Corvette, blocking their view of the road ahead. Now, a new dashcam video has emerged online supporting these claims and showing what it looks like to experience this problem from the driver's perspective. The video was recorded by the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder. In it, we see the driver of the C8 Corvette turn onto a suburban switch and merge into traffic. Out of nowhere, the hood of the Corvette flies open, completely obscuring the driver's view. It's a scary scenario that could have easily caused a serious accident. Luckily, the Corvette was only doing 43 mph when the hood flew open. If this had happened at high speed on a highway or race track, there could have been serious consequences. We have to commend how calmly the driver deals with this situation. With little time to react, the driver safely pulls to the side of the road and shuts the hood. The driver takes some photos of the damage before continuing their journey. If we were them, we would be paranoid about the hood flying up again, but the journey continues without incident for several minutes in the video. We're assuming the hood was closed correctly. If the hood is partially open, the C8 Corvette displays a warning alerting the driver and limits the car's top speed to 82 mph. As to why the video was removed, we're uncertain. Could it possibly be pressure from General Motors to try and mitigate reports of these incidents spreading? Quite possibly. General Motors is investigating this issue and working on a fix to resolve it. When that happens, expect GM to issue a recall for the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
