Abandoned Porsche Carrera GT Makes Us Want To Cry

Aug. 10, 2020 2:20 PM ET by Jared Rosenholtz Offbeat / 16 Comments It lives with an abandoned Ferrari and Corvette too. Car enthusiasts feel genuine pain whenever they see an abandoned sports car or supercar in need of love. So if you get squeamish at the sight of high-dollar exotics covered in dust, we suggest you turn away now. Cheongermando on Instagram recently shared photos of abandoned cars located at an abandoned dealership in southern mainland China. The 3S Center was the first Ferrari/Maserati dealership in the country (opened back in 2005), but reports claimed it closed down in 2011 or 2012 after the Chinese government implemented anti-corruption and excessive consumption measures. As a result, there is some exotic metal abandoned inside. James Wan / Instagram James Wan / Instagram James Wan / Instagram The most valuable car is a red Porsche Carrera GT, rumored to be number 1,255 out of only 1,270 ever built. To add insult to injury, this particular car wears a shade called Zanzibar Red Metallic and is estimated to be one of just three finished in this color. This exact Carrera GT has been listed for sale in the past with previous owners in Germany and Russia. When last up for sale, it had just 4,581 kilometers on the odometer. The dealership also contains several other cars, including a Corvette and a Ferrari. So we can take some comfort from knowing that the Carrera GT won't live out the remainder of its days alone. James Wan / Instagram James Wan / Instagram The Corvette in question is a C5-generation Z06 finished in yellow, and the Ferrari is a rare 575 Superamerica, a predecessor to the modern-day Ferrari 812 GTS. The Z06 is a cool car on its own, but the Superamerica is exceptionally rare, with just 559 in the entire world. This particular car is even more elusive because it is one of only 43 units equipped with a gated manual transmission. Perhaps someone will eventually rescue these poor cars from abandonment.
