New Rolls-Royce Ghost Will Have All-Wheel Drive

Aug. 11, 2020 9:35 AM ET by Martin Bigg Teaser / 1 Comment As well as an advanced suspension system took three years to develop. As the countdown to the reveal of the new Rolls-Royce Ghost continues, Rolls-Royce is drip-feeding us new details about its redesigned luxury limo in a series of short animated teaser videos. Last week, the luxury automaker revealed how data gathered from clients about the original model will influence the design and engineering of the new Ghost. Now, the third teaser video gives us an insight into the new Ghost's improved engineering. One of the main goals was to make the new Rolls-Royce more refined to be driven in, and more enjoyable to drive.
Each Rolls-Royce has its own unique underpinning based on the automaker's "architecture of luxury", and the new Ghost is no different. Rolls-Royce explains how the flexibility of this aluminum space frame enabled the manufacturer to incorporate all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering. Rolls-Royce Rolls-Royce Another key advancement is the new revolutionary suspension system featuring world-first technology. Rolls-Royce calls its suspension system the 'Planar system', which features an upper wishbone damper unit mounted above the front suspension assembly to create "an even more stable and effortless ride." This is combined with cameras that read the road ahead and prepare the suspension system for changes in the road surface, as well as GPS data used to pre-select the optimum gear for corners. This revolutionary suspension system took three years for Rolls-Royce to develop. "Ghost clients told us that it's the car in their collection that they're drawn to the most. They love its uncomplicated versatility," said Jonathan Simms, Engineering Lead of the new Ghost. Rolls-Royce Rolls-Royce "It's not trying to be a sports car, it's not trying to be a grand statement - it's simply exceptional and exceptionally simple. When it came to creating a new Ghost - one that outshines its incredibly capable predecessor - the engineering team had to start from scratch. We pushed our architecture even further and created a car even more dynamic, even more luxurious and, most of all, even more effortlessly useable." Engine details still haven't been confirmed, but the new Rolls-Royce Ghost is expected to use a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 producing 563 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Rolls-Royce will release a fourth and final animated teaser before the new Ghost debuts this fall. Rolls-Royce Rolls-Royce Rolls-Royce
