This Car' s Holographic Assistant Will Make You Feel Like Iron Man

Aug. 20, 2020 12:00 PM ET by Martin Bigg Technology / 16 Comments Maybe Tesla can apply this science-fiction-inspired tech to future models. Holographic assistants are usually the stuff of science-fiction movies like Iron Man, but now one Chinese automaker has made them a reality. A new electric SUV called the Bestune E01 has been announced for the Chinese market, and one of its most unique features is a 3D holographic assistant placed inside a crystal-shaped enclosure at the top of the dashboard to cater for your needs. We imagine it makes you feel like you're in an Iron Man movie. You can even choose between different characters if the female assistant shown in the official photos doesn't appeal to you. Elon Musk is a science fiction fan after all - the design of the Tesla Cybertruck is inspired by the Blade Runner series and every model has easter eggs referencing the Star Wars spoof movie, Spaceballs. As you'd expect for a car with such futuristic tech, there aren't many physical buttons in the cabin. Instead, there's an infotainment screen at the center, a fully digital instrument cluster, and an additional touchscreen that controls functions such as climate control. As for the exterior, the electric SUV features a long hood, slim headlights, and striking aerodynamic wheels. Pop-out door handles also give the side profile a sleek appearance. In terms of dimensions, the Bestune E01 measures 182.6 inches long, 74 inches wide, and 64.5 inches high, with a 110.6 inch-long wheelbase. With seating for up to five occupants, the Bestune E01 weighs 3,990 pounds. Power is provided by an electric motor that produces 190 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque, while a 61.34 kWh battery pack enables the E01 to last 279 miles on a single charge based on the NEDC cycle. Top speed is rated at 105 mph. Sales for the futuristic Bestune E01 will begin in China next month, but there's no chance of it coming to America. Bestune Bestune Bestune Bestune Bestune
