2021 Ford F-150 Raptor Coming With Over 700 HP

With this week's long-awaited debut of the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX, Ram has set a new performance benchmark for pickup trucks. Powering the beast is a 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 engine producing 702 horsepower, making it the fastest and most powerful production pickup in the world. Suddenly, the Ford F-150 Raptor seems rather tame by comparison. Don't think, however, that Ford is going to let Ram steal the Raptor's spotlight for long. Just a few days after the TRX's debut, The Drive has learned from insiders that Ford has big plans to leave the Ram 1500 TRX in the dust with the new 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor. That's because the new Raptor will have a V8 with more than 700 hp, too. F150gen14 / YouTube F150gen14 / YouTube F150gen14 / YouTube According to the publication's sources, the Blue Oval automaker is planning to stuff the Shelby GT500's 5.2-liter supercharged V8 into the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor. It's no coincidence, then, that a prototype 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor was recently caught on video with a new engine that sounded like the unmistakable rumble of a V8. In the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, this unit produces 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque, but will allegedly be detuned to around 725 hp - 750 hp. That would make the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor even more powerful than the Ram 1500 TRX. Ford Ford "Honestly, we had to counter Ram once we knew they installed the Hellcat in the TRX," the insider told the publication. This would also be a significant upgrade over the current F-150 Raptor, which produces 450 hp and 510 lb-ft from a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. What we don't know, however, is how much torque the 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor will have on tap. To beat the TRX, it will need to have over 650 lb-ft of torque but we'll need to wait until the new Ford F-150 Raptor debuts in early 2021 to find out. We can't wait to see Ford come back fighting.
