Pro Golfer Chips Ball Through His $4 9 Million Ferrari

Sep. 02, 2020 7:43 AM ET by Jared Rosenholtz Supercars / 12 Comments Imagine explaining this to the dealership. For fans of professional golf, Ian Poulter needs no introduction as one of the top players in the sport. But the Brit is more than just one of the world's top golfers, he is also a passionate and well-stocked car collector. Poulter's favorite car brand is Ferrari, and it clearly shows in his collection. The jewels of his garage are "The Ferrari Five," which includes the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and the Ferrari LaFerrari. Poulter recently performed a stunt on Instagram in which he shot a golf ball through the open windows of his Mercedes-AMG GT63. One commenter asked if he was confident enough to try again with his prized LaFerrari Aperta, the roofless version of the LaFerrari. He responded, "Be easy, no roof." As you might expect, the pro golfer took up the challenge in his next video. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEju7o-offq/ Ianjamespoulter / Instagram Ianjamespoulter / Instagram To make the challenge harder on himself, Poulter decided to leave the roof on the Aperta, meaning a bad shot could damage the paint and bodywork. Leaving the roof installed also makes it more difficult to climb out of the low-slung supercar, as evidenced by the video when the 6'1" golfer exits to perform the stunt. Poulter posted the brief 34-second video on his Instagram page with the caption, "How else would I practice playing with Ryder Cup pressure?" An AMG GT 63 could be worth as much as $200,000, so missing that shot could have been expensive. But missing the Ferrari shot would be exponentially more devastating, as the Aperta is currently valued at around $4.6 million.

He then hops into his 949-horsepower V12 hybrid hypercar and drives off, giving a nice engine rev on his way out. Perhaps there are more difficult golf trick shots elsewhere on the internet, but how many of those risk damaging a multi-million dollar Ferrari?
Our question is, what's next? After performing the trick through both the GT 63 S's window and the LaFerrari's, could Poulter up the stakes in the future with one of his even more valuable cars? Ferrari Ferrari Ferrari
