The first examples of the 2021 Audi RS6 Avant just arrived in America as long-time wagon enthusiasts cried tears of joy. There are a lot of years to make up for, starting back in 1994 when the Audi RS2 Avant debuted. This limited-edition high-performance wagon was actually a joint venture deal between Audi and Porsche and was the former's first-ever RS-branded model. Just 2,900 units were built for the world, but America was not included. And now Audi is honoring the RS2 Avant with the new RS6 Avant Tribute edition. Limited to just 25 examples here in the US, it pays homage to the original power wagon with unique exterior and interior styling elements, including Nogaro Blue exterior paint with black accents on the grille, side blades, and rear diffuser. A set of 22-inch, five-spoke trapezoid design cast-aluminum wheels with summer rubber are standard, as are red steel brake calibers. The interior mirrors the exterior theme by way of Denim blue contrast stitching on the Valcona S Sport seats. The driver and front passenger seats also sport lower seat panels with the same blue stitching. Other interior features include a perforated steering wheel, RS floor mats, and leather trim on the dash.
While the RS2 Avant had a turbocharged 2.2-liter five-cylinder engine with 311 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed manual, the RS6 Avant is powered by a mighty 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 591 hp and 590 lb-ft and an eight-speed automatic. Both, however, are all-wheel drive. Expect 0-60 mph to happen in 3.5 seconds.
