Corvette Drag Race Hennessey C7 Vs Stock C8

Sep. 05, 2020 1:46 PM ET by Michael Butler Video / 4 Comments It's not even close. We've recently seen a Corvette race a Tesla Model 3 with some seriously surprising results, but what about some inter-generational competition? Hennessy Performance has recently posted a video in which a heavily modified C7 Corvette takes on a stock C8 Stingray. Sure it doesn't seem fair, but who cares when you get to see two powerful cars go head to head on the track. First, let's talk about the cars. The C8 spotted in the video is a bone stock example, with a 6.2-liter V8 sending 490 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. That's good for a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds (if you go with the Z51 package that adds a few performance goodies).

That gives it the ability to sprint to sixty in 2.6 seconds, and complete the quarter-mile in 10.3 seconds at 136 mph. The package includes high-flow cylinder heads, upgraded valve springs, a high-flow induction system, and a lower pulley upgrade. For a split second the C8 managed to push its head in front of the C7, but it's all over before you can blink. After a change into third gear, the C7 simply walks away from the newer Corvette, and keeps on pulling car lengths until they cross the finish line. In the next race, the C8 rolls in from 30 mph while the C7 starts from a dig. At 130 mph the C7 comes screaming past in a gross display of power. With 850 horses going to the wheels, it was never going to be a real race, was it? YouTube/ Hennessey Performance YouTube/ Hennessey Performance YouTube/ Hennessey Performance
