2022 Hyundai Tucson Receives Final Thrashing Ahead Of Debut

Hyundai has been running a teaser campaign for the next-generation Tucson crossover over the past couple of weeks and now the automaker has released its own spy shots. What you're looking at is a relatively lightly covered camouflaged 2022 Hyundai Tucson crossover performing final testing in Europe. Set to officially debut next week, the new Tucson will, once again, be the automaker's compact crossover offering, facing off against the likes of the Ford Edge and Toyota RAV4. The RAV4 in particular has become a formidable foe and Hyundai took note. The fourth-generation Tucson's sharp and perhaps polarizing styling is directly inspired by last year's Vision T concept. Its front grille has a textured appearance and the headlights are integrated directly into its shape. Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai That may be a bit hard to see in these new images, but they're actually more visible on last week's teasers. Without question, the new Tucson is going to have a bold new look on par with other recent Hyundai models, specifically the Elantra and Sonata sedans. The final testing shown here was done in the Czech Republic and Austria, two countries with hilly and mountainous terrain. This does not mean the Tucson has become a body-on-frame SUV. It's not, but these images indicate engineers have gone to great lengths to make the new Tucson more capable than ever. Having the option of all-wheel-drive will certainly help. Hyundai Hyundai Hyundai Like before, it will share a platform with the Elantra. A 2.0-liter inline-four engine with around 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque is likely standard. The optional engine is expected to be the 1.6-liter turbocharged four rated at 201 hp and paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, but, again, this is purely speculation on our part. Also, the advanced prototype pictured here testing is the Euro-spec model and we don't know yet whether or not it'll be identical to the US market version. Hyundai has already said it'll offer two different wheelbase lengths depending on the market. Chances are, America will receive the larger version.
