Spied Volkswagen ID 6 Is Ready To Battle Tesla Model X

The all-electric 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 crossover arrives later this month, ushering in a new era of electrification for the VW brand. VW's lineup of ID-branded models will expand with models like the ID Buzz van, and also a larger crossover that was just spotted by our spy photographers in the Alps. The prototype seen here will sit above the ID.4 in the lineup and include three rows of seating. First shown as a concept vehicle called the ID. Roomzz, this electric three-row crossover could use the production name, 'ID.6.' Just like the ID.4 and the recently-revealed Skoda Enyaq, the ID.4 will use VW's MEB electric vehicle architecture. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz The production ID.6 appears to be far more conventional than its ID.Roomzz concept counterpart. This first batch of spy shots suggests VW will go with a more toned-down design. It features a far more traditional front end design, although, this could just be a trick to fool us as the camo has been cleverly printed to look like a grille, headlights, and air intakes. Both the front and rear lighting signature lose the connected layout seen on the concept and it appears that the concept's sliding doors are gone as well. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz All other details about the ID.6 are still unknown, though it should use similar powertrain options of the ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 crossover. You can likely expect a base version with rear-wheel-drive producing 205 horsepower, and a dual-motor version with all-wheel-drive producing significantly higher output. As for range, we expect the ID.6 to fall short of its ID.4 counterpart due to its larger size and higher curb weight. The ID.4 is targeting a range of close to 300 miles, which could differ on the US EPA testing cycle, so the ID.6 may be limited to around 220-250 miles of range if we were to take an early guess.
