How A Ferrari-Mad YouTuber Convinced Ford To Give Him A GT

Some simply aim to fill their garages with any piece of exotica they can get their hands on, while others are resolutely loyal to one particular brand. YouTuber David Lee falls into the latter camp - he is an avid Ferrari collector with a string of classics from the Italian automaker to his name, including an F40. But Lee decided to break with tradition and purchase something with a blue badge, not a yellow one. Yes, this Ferrari fan purchased a Ford. Not just any Ford, mind you, but a carbon series Ford GT. In a new video, he explains how he got hold of one. Ford needs to approve each applicant for the purchase, and there are strict clauses in place to prevent the GT being flipped for a profit. Lee's strategy paid off, though, as he wanted a GT to fulfill his own personal Ford V Ferrari fantasy in his own garage. His position as a prominent YouTuber also helped, making him the latest of several YouTube stars to be approved for GT ownership. A representative from Ford Performance visited Lee's garage to talk more about his GT, as it was parked between a string of classic Ferraris. Lee was offered the 2020 GT Carbon Series, which uses the same carbon tub as the GT race car. Ferrari Collector David Lee/YouTube Ferrari Collector David Lee/YouTube Later, the representative points out the larger intercooler on the side of the body behind the door, which is the only visual difference between Lee's 2020 model and earlier versions of the GT. Among the other updates to the 2020 Ford GT are a 13-horsepower increase in power for a total of 660 hp from the 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine. Unfortunately, Lee doesn't go so far as to explain how the driving experience offered by the GT compares to any of his Ferraris, which would have been interesting to hear. At least we now know that Ford GT ownership is pretty simple - all you need to do is buy a bunch of Ferraris first and give the sales pitch of a lifetime to Ford.
