New Maserati Teaser Previews MC20' s Dramatic Curves

Set to mark Maserati's return to racing, the Maserati Corse 2020 - shortened to MC20 - will be revealed to the world on September 9. This mid-engine supercar has been teased by the marque in a new video shared on its Facebook page. As teasers go, much of the design remains hidden, but there are a few design details here that were concealed in a recent batch of spy photos. The aerodynamic body has plenty of curves, intakes, and slashes, both optimizing airflow and endowing the MC20 with a striking appearance. Maserati/Facebook Maserati/Facebook There are what appear to be deep scoops on the hood and the outline of the grille, but the rear of the car was completely hidden. However, we do know from recent spy shots that there will be dual-exit, centrally mounted tailpipes at the back. Later in the video teaser, we can just about make out the Maserati logo behind the door and ahead of the circular fuel filler cap. That's about it as far as the teaser goes, but it does the job of whetting our appetites. Underneath the skin, the MC20 will be motivated by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 621 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque. The new powerplant been dubbed 'Nettuno' and weighs below 485 pounds. An earlier spy video gives us an idea of what this high-revving screamer sounds like. CarBuzz CarBuzz Power will be directed to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Like virtually all of Maserati's engines, the Nettuno won't just make a lovely sound but will pack a mean punch as well, as it has a specific output in the region of 207 hp/liter. Performance figures haven't yet been disclosed, but Maserati's choice of wording in the new teaser - "liftoff is imminent" - is a sign that it should offer towering acceleration off the line. It should do the iconic MC12 proud, which was the last Maserati race car and famously based on the Enzo Ferrari. Mark your calendars for the big reveal on September 9. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz
