Here' s Proof A Hardcore Hyundai Elantra N Is Coming

After the Veloster N proved that Hyundai can build a hot hatchback to rival the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Honda Civic Type R, the Korean automaker is preparing to expand its N performance range, which is Hyundai's answer to BMW M and Mercedes-AMG. Spy shots have shown that Hyundai is preparing to give the Kona crossover the N performance treatment. Hyundai hasn't lifted the wraps off the high-performance crossover yet, but our spy photographers have already spotted another new Hyundai N performance model being tested out on the streets. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz The Elantra is already offered with an N Line package that adds more power, sharper handling, and sportier styling, but we now have proof that the Elantra is also getting the full-fat N treatment. This Hyundai Elantra prototype is disguised in camouflage, but Hyundai can't hide some of the design details that show this is not a standard Elantra, from the large exhaust pipes and prominent diffuser, to the sporty fixed rear wing and bigger wheels housing red brake calipers. The front bumper also appears to be sporting larger air intakes, but the camouflage does a good job of covering the front end. CarBuzz CarBuzz Under the hood, the Hyundai Elantra N Line is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline engine that produces 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft torque, but the output is expected to increase to around 275 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque in the hardcore Elantra N, matching the output of the Veloster N with the Performance Pack installed and the upcoming Kona N. Power will be sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Since the Hyundai Elantra N Line only debuted a few weeks ago, we aren't expecting the new Hyundai Elantra N to be unveiled until later this year or sometime in 2021. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz
