Back in June, Chevrolet lifted the wraps off the 2021 Colorado facelift, featuring more aggressive styling inspired by the new Chevrolet Silverado. But the updates won't stop there. According to a new report by GM Insiders, the rugged Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 will be updated with a new "Baja mode" after the 2021 model year. No other details were provided by the publication's source, but naming it after the grueling Baja 1000 sport suggests it will be an extreme off-road mode. It's also unclear if the new Baja mode will be a software or hardware upgrade to improve the Colorado ZR2's capability. Chevrolet Chevrolet If the Baja mode is added as a software update, it could reprogram the traction control and stability, adjust the brakes and ABS to increase traction in specific scenarios, or display information in the driver information center or infotainment system. Alternatively, it could be as simple as a new navigation feature or an infotainment system update. If, however, the Baja mode is offered as a hardware update, it could add advanced locking differentials and more extreme off-road parts inspired by the Baja 1000 such as larger tires and adjustable suspension. Not that the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 really needs any off-road upgrades since it already comes equipped with Multimatic position-sensitive dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and a two-inch suspension lift among other off-road enhancements. It could also be offered as a new feature for the next-generation Colorado ZR2 in 2023 or 2024, which is rumored to only be offered with GM's 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque in the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500.
