2021 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak Is The Most Expensive Challenger Ever Made

Sep. 03, 2020 9:50 AM ET by Aaron Brzozowski Reveal / 9 Comments It's also the fastest, quickest, and most powerful Drag Pak ever, so... Mopar's newest non-VIN, non-street-legal weapon for the drag strip is nearly here. The 2021 Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak has been developed to fight Ford's Mustang Cobra Jet and Chevrolet's COPO Camaro at the track, and it has a price tag befitting such a specialized, purpose-built machine: $143,485, according to a release from FCA's Mopar unit. That's enough to qualify it as the most expensive Dodge Challenger ever built, with a price greater than the base MSRP of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63. Why so expensive? Partly, it's because of the Drag Pak's rarity; just 50 examples will be built for 2021. But more crucially, it comes down to the mechanicals.
Far from your average V8 Dodge Challenger, the Mopar Drag Pak features a bespoke Gen-III Hemi V8 displacing 354 cubic inches - about 5.8 liters - with upgraded forged internals designed to withstand the rigors of all-out drag racing. A 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger sits on top, and there's even a clear-lid aluminum ice tank to help cool down the intercooler between runs. The suspension is purpose-built, too, with a four-link rear suspension featuring a unique geometry with longer control arms to increase the length of the rear swing arm, resulting in better anti-squat. A bespoke Mopar K-member up front features integrated solid engine mounts and a cut-out for easier oil pan removal, and specially tuned, double-adjustable Bilstein coilovers sit at all four corners. Throw in a set of Strange Engineering Pro Series II brakes, and a choice of either Bogart or Weld Racing wheels - 15-inch front, 17-inch rear - with Mickey Thompson ET Drag tires and suddenly, $143,485 starts to look like a bargain.
Mopar Mopar Mopar "This is the quickest, fastest and most powerful Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak we've ever built," says FCA's North American Head of Passenger Cars, Tim Kuniskis. "And, 50 members of the Brotherhood [of Muscle] are going to be able to buy this 7-second turn-key race car right from their local Dodge dealer." The 2021 Dodge Challenger Mopar Drag Pak is slated to start production in the first quarter of 2021, although we wouldn't recommend waiting that long to put in a reservation. Customers are encouraged to contact the Dodge//SRT Concierge today at (800) 998-1110 to register for the chance to order the new NHRA and NMCA competition car, and order reservations will officially open September 9.
