Meet The 13 000-RPM Mini From Hell
Aug. 23, 2020 6:40 AM ET by Michael Butler Tuning / 5 Comments 13,000 rpm shifts have never sounded so good. Can you really call yourself a gearhead if you don't like the original Mini? These little cars have been sticking it to much larger and more powerful cars for decades, and is still one of the most recognizable cars around. While we love the Mini JCW GP and the even wilder Manhart JCW GP, this little beast you see here is on a different level. This custom Mini has seen some radical changes made to not only the bodywork, but to its internals as well. Say hello to the Kawasaki Ninja-engined Mini. instagram/adamturbo1 instagram/adamturbo1 YouTube/Roads Untraveled In the video, we get to see this creation at full tilt as it comes screaming past the camera at well over 10,000 rpm. The start of the video shows that this 1991 Mini's engine no longer sits in the front, but has been mid-mounted like a real little exotic sports car. What lurks in the rear you ask? None other than a Kawasaki Ninja ZX10 R engine that produces around 160 hp. "If you don't have earplugs in, you're going to have a headache. The engine and the headers are literally on the other side of the firewall, so it gets really hot. But the noise can be overwhelming if you're not used to it" says Adam the owner. The car originally had a 998 Mini motor with a turbocharger, but after some trouble, the bike engine went in. Every inch of the drivetrain has been meticulously put together to work in harmony with the car. The standard sequential transmission remains, which means flat foot shifting into the stratosphere, and the fuel tank is up front where the engine used to be. This is Adam's second bike-powered car, his first is a trike from hell. "This car offers a pretty fun driving experience. Because it doesn't have a ton of torque you can get on it without having a freakout," he concludes. This little pocket rocket doesn't come close to looking or sounding like a sleeper car, and we love it all the more for it.
