Teased Chevrolet' s Tesla Model Y Fighter Is Coming

This was made crystal clear at its "EV Day" presentation back in March where some early details of its updated Chevrolet Bolt EV were announced. Although it'll still ride on the same platform as the current Bolt, the updated subcompact hatchback will receive a number of much-needed upgrades, specifically a new infotainment system and an interior overhaul. But what we're far more excited to see is the already confirmed Bolt EUV, or "Electric Utility Vehicle." Both are set to begin production next summer and will be revealed in full sometime before then. Today, the first Bolt EUV teaser has appeared. Basically, the video begins with a darkened image of the refreshed Bolt EV and ends with the Bolt EUV. No other major details were provided, though Chevy says Bolt EUV will be its first model to feature the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology. At present, it's only available in Cadillacs. Chevy also specifically states that this system is "the industry's first true hands-free driving technology for the highway." Is that a knock at Tesla and its Autopilot system? It sure sounds like it. The Bolt EUV will feature the Bow Tie brand's latest styling language and share a platform with China's Buick Velite 7. Buick Buick Buick Buick That vehicle's dimensions are 167.7 inches long, 69.7-inches wide, 63.8 inches tall, and 105.5-inch wheelbase. To compare, the Tesla Model Y measures 187 inches in length, 75.6-inches wide, and 63.9-inches tall. So, chances are the Bolt EUV will be closer in size to the Hyundai Kona Electric, but will probably beat the Model Y elsewhere. Presumably, the Bolt EUV will cost quite a bit less than the Model Y's base price of $49,990. The Bolt hatchback currently starts at $36,620 before any tax incentives, and we doubt the refreshed model will see a significant increase.
