Next-Generation Lexus NX Could Go From Zero To Hero

Still in its first generation, the NX arrived on the market back in 2014, underpinned by the same Toyota New MC platform used by the then-current RAV4. Toyota has since replaced the RAV4 with a new model, using its scalable TNGA platform. As a result of its age, the NX now lags behind its mainstream counterpart with regards to power, efficiency, and technology. A massive leak from Toyota and Lexus indicates that an all-new NX is on the way, and could arrive with up to five different powertrain options. The new NX should be based on the same TNGA-K platform as the RAV4 and new Venza, meaning it should benefit from all of the improvements seen on those models. KDesign AG KDesign AG CarBuzz CarBuzz Brazilian designer Kleber Silva imagined what the next-generation NX could look like, using the RAV4's squared wheel arches. Upon first glance, this interpretation seems more handsome than the current NX without being too similar to its mainstream counterpart. With the large wheels, two-tone roof, and unique front fascia, we'd be happy to be seen in this NX. Rumors indicate the new NX will sit between the RAV4 and Venza in terms of length, but be wider than both. It should arrive sometime next year in 2021 as a 2022 model. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz As for powertrains, the 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid drivetrain from the RAV4 Hybrid and Venza should make an appearance, likely producing an identical 219 horsepower as the Toyota models. A 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder could replace the current 2.0-liter mill, according to rumors, delivering upwards of 300 hp. Lexus could also decide to borrow the plug-in hybrid drivetrain from the RAV4 Prime, which generates 302 hp.
