Three electric motors provide up to 496 horsepower and a mountainous 717 lb-ft of torque, granting the Audi EV some serious performance abilities. 0-60 mph is dispatched in 4.3 seconds, and the e-tron S won't stop accelerating until it reaches a 130-mph top speed. Impressive as that may sound, the base Model X is quicker still. However, the Audi strikes back with an $84,800 starting price, classier looks, and a far more tasteful interior. But there's a threat from BMW, too. If you can get past the looks, the BMW iX is a stellar electric SUV with an equally appealing price and similar performance to the Audi. Is the e-tron worth your consideration? And, if so, which trim level should you opt for?
The e-tron S has a rather unique setup. As mentioned, the motors situated on the rear axle operate independently which, Audi says, allows for more precise cornering courtesy of the electric torque vectoring. What cannot be faulted is the ride quality. The e-tron S simply glides across the road, courtesy of the five-link air suspension in the front and rear. Even with the larger 22-inch wheels, the big Audi is unruffled by poor surfaces and potholes. It's particularly adept at highway cruising, where occupants can sit back and enjoy the serenity afforded by the silent motors and cloud-like ride. Despite the size, it's fairly easy to navigate through town but the width may become problematic should you wander down a narrow street. We have no complaints when it comes to the brakes, either. The pedal is responsive and the large 15.7-inch front discs will bring the heavy e-tron to a halt with very little fuss. The regenerative braking system is handy, but you may struggle to get used to it if you're coming from an ICE vehicle. by Jarryd Neves If you liken the automotive world to the fashion industry, this season's must-have accessory is the electric luxury SUV. Long the darling of the proverbial catwalk, the aging Tesla Model X now faces stiff competition from the 2022 Audi e-tron S. Ingolstadt's riposte looks the part, but can it steal the show from the ever-trendy Tesla? Audi's first-ever electric S model certainly has the potential to do so.Three electric motors provide up to 496 horsepower and a mountainous 717 lb-ft of torque, granting the Audi EV some serious performance abilities. 0-60 mph is dispatched in 4.3 seconds, and the e-tron S won't stop accelerating until it reaches a 130-mph top speed. The e-tron S is an all-new arrival for the 2022 model year. Compared to the regular e-tron, the sportier derivative has more power (496 hp vs 402 hp), superior performance, and a more dynamic driving experience. Where the e-tron employs two electric motors, the sportier rendition receives three; one is situated on the front axle with another pair sited on the rear. The e-tron S also receives subtle styling tweaks to reflect its performance credentials. A racy-looking body kit lends the SUV more attitude and pairs nicely with the standard 20-inch wheels. You pay for all of this, though - the base e-tron S is around the same price as the range-topping e-tron Chronos Edition.Pros and Cons

Despite the sporting pretensions, the e-tron S isn't the poster child for dynamic SUVs. It may have a low center of gravity, but the 6,074 lb curb weight is felt in sharp corners and during spirited driving. Still, the electric quattro all-wheel-drive provides plenty of grip when pressing on and, overall, the Audi can provide a reasonably entertaining experience if driven at seven-tenths.The e-tron S has a rather unique setup.
