Wrecked Lucid Air Dream Edition Is Begging To Be Rescued

May. 09, 2022 11:42 AM ET by Jarryd Neves Crash / 14 Comments This once-sleek EV is one of just 520 Dream Edition models. It's been just seven months since Lucid Motors commenced delivery of its sleek Air luxury sedan and, already, a rare Dream Edition has found its way to the scrapyard. With just 520 examples made, the range-topping electric sedan came with a 520-mile travel range (for the Range model) and an equally impressive $169,000 price tag. The once-aerodynamic sheet metal has been destroyed by what appears to be a rather nasty crash. The right-side front fender has been ripped apart, exposing the front wheel and important componentry. The hood hasn't escaped unscathed, suffering substantial damage, along with the front bumper and right headlight. The destruction continues down the side of the battery-powered vehicle; the rear door has been bent out of place and the rear fender has been dealt a blow, too. Copart Copart Copart Copart Inside, it's evident this example was involved in a particularly violent shunt. Several of the vehicle's airbags were deployed in the incident. If this desirable EV is repairable, it will prove an expensive and laborious project. Listed for sale on Copart, the advertisement doesn't list the vehicle's mileage (or anything else, for that matter) but does estimate the retail value at $169,000 - the same as its original MSRP.
We're guessing several adventurous (and brave) bidders will be interested in the forlorn Lucid as it heads to auction. Hopefully, it can be repaired - it's heartbreaking to see such a rare and innovative electric vehicle end its life so early. If the important electrical components and batteries have escaped unscathed, it's very possible that this Lucid Air can be restored to as-new condition. Copart Copart Copart If a buyer can get this at the right price (and keep repair costs down to a minimum) there's a small chance to turn a profit. After all, Lucid models are in high demand at the moment. While the company is slowly expanding its dealership footprint, supply constraints have forced the company to cut its planned production output from 20,000 to between 12,000 - 14,000 vehicles. With more than 30,000 reservation holders, it may be some time before buyers get their hands on the Model S rival. A few examples have appeared on the second-hand market but we're guessing a well-repaired model sporting a significantly lower price tag may pique the interest of many waiting buyers. The range of battery-powered luxury vehicles will be subject to a price increase from June 1, with the entry-level Pure derivative set to receive a $10,000 bump to its MSRP. Copart Copart Copart
