SPIED Porsche' s Next Heritage 911 Will Be Even More Special

As if the 911 wasn't special enough, Porsche Heritage Design has been building some even more extravagant versions that harken back to the company's past. Porsche first revealed the stunning Targa 4S Heritage Edition, followed by the the manual-only Sport Classic. We thought the Sport Classic was peak Porsche Heritage cool, until now. Our spy photographers just spotted the next Porsche Heritage Design model, dubbed the 911 ST. The original ST was an extremely rare race car built in 1970, with only 24 copies ever made. Porsche's goal was to make the lightest car possible. This new model will be based on the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3, specifically the wingless GT3 Touring variant. In other words, it's going to be one of the greatest 911 models of all time. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Since it's based on the current GT3, the 911 ST will pack a rear-mounted 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine, likely spitting out the same 502 horsepower and 346 lb-ft of torque. Sure, that's a little bit less than the 911 Turbo-based Sport Classic, but the ST's non-boosted power plant should deliver a more satisfying exhaust note. Like the Sport Classic, the ST will receive styling changes over the GT3, including a double bubble roof. It also appears like Porsche will use the wider Turbo fenders here, giving the ST a menacing stance. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz We expect several weight-saving measures employed here, including more conventional door handles than other 911 models. These door handles were expected to appear on the upcoming GT3 RS and should trim some weight compared to the power-operated ones on more conventional variants. This will likely be the lightest 992 generation 911 of them all. It's unclear how many Porsche will build, as the Sport Classic was limited to just 1,250 units globally.
