This GMC Sierra Is Built To Keep You In The Woods Forever

May. 25, 2022 12:55 PM ET by Chase Bierenkoven Off-Road / 4 Comments There's even a kitchen and shower. The Overland Expo is all about getting outdoors. It's a mix of education and a SEMA-like exposition showing what's new and hot in the outdoors industry, specifically in regards to overlanding. To commemorate this year's show, the organizers of Overland Expo have put together a rad new build, based on the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X. In short, it's just about anything and everything you'd want with you when you're going overlanding, from the car to all of the supporting infrastructure and safety equipment you'll need to exist off the grid for any period of time. That means equipment like recovery tracks, a fridge, SOS gear, and more. A lot more. Overland Expo Overland Expo Overland Expo Overland Expo In total, 12 different outdoor vendors threw parts at this 1500, from well-known names like MagnaFlow to lesser-known equipment manufacturers like Dometic. The 1500 was selected for a handful of reasons, including a "potent 6.2-liter V8 [hooked to a MagnaFlow exhaust], techie and luxurious cabin, and capable four-wheel drive system that features front and rear electronically locking differentials." The release also makes mention of GMC's Multimatic dampers, which should help with the ride both on and off-road. The Sierra's stock bed was ditched in favor of a 6.4-foot tray accompanied by a three-foot canopy. That tray has an eight-gallon water tank in the headboard, as well as plenty of storage. Living inside the canopy are the controls for the roof-mounted solar panel. There's also a camp kitchen, shower, and more storage under the canopy. Of course, occupants can rest up in the included two-man tent. Another aluminum storage box is also stowed on top, which holds recovery gear like a bottle jack and tools. Passengers can stay connected if they want, with the Sierra's new radio, satellite communicator, and weBoost cell signal booster. Moreover, their stuff should stay dry, with a pair of drybags available to strap to the roof. Down low, you'll note the 17-inch ICON wheels, with Firestone A/T tires. Should you need to air down on the trail, there's also an onboard pump to help reinflate the tires. In addition to the Multimatic shocks, that air pump can help inflate the air springs located on the rear axle. In all, it's an incredibly cool and capable rig. It's surely got a massive price tag to match, but can you really put a dollar value on getting away from the crushing mass of humanity for a weekend?
