Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar To Be Unleashed This Week

May. 30, 2022 8:40 AM ET by Sebastian Cenizo Teaser / 13 Comments A new teaser from the F1 team confirms the debut date. When we first heard about the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar, we were very excited, but also very skeptical. Around 1,000 horsepower: good. Extracting that power from a Formula 1 engine and making sure it can idle quietly and adhere to emissions regulations: a nightmare. In fact, Mercedes brass recently admitted that it must have been drunk when approving the ambitious project. Regardless of the challenges faced by the engineers and the many delays these have caused, there seemed to be light at the end of the tunnel when a rumor emerged claiming that the innovative new car would arrive this year. That rumor has now been validated, thanks to a short teaser clip from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team on Facebook. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz According to the short video, the hybrid hypercar will finally be presented to the public on June 1, 2022. We still know very little about the machine, but the 1.6-liter V6 hybrid powertrain that was so difficult to perfect for road use will still reside in the middle of the car, helping the One achieve a 0-60 mph time of well under three seconds. As for output, conflicting reports have been emerging, with some saying that the car will indeed produce over 1,000 hp and others suggesting that the limit will be 877 hp. According to the car's profile on the Forza Horizon 5 videogame, its weight will be pegged at 3,737 pounds, but that seems excessive considering that AMG was aiming for a figure well below 2,900 lbs.
Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Whatever the truth of the matter, at least the wait is finally coming to an end. The car was originally revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and was intended to hit the road in 2019. Only 275 examples have been planned, with all of them already spoken for, despite a price tag of around $2.7 million. While the car will be a technological tour de force, its headline acceleration and top speed figures will be of secondary concern - this car is built to decimate race tracks. Hopefully, Mercedes-AMG will take it to the Nurburgring to chase a new lap record. Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz
