The 2023 BMW X1 Already Entered Production
Jun. 11, 2022 6:02 AM ET by Sebastian Cenizo Industry News / 1 Comment The crossover was only revealed a few days ago. After more than two years of development, the 2023 BMW X1 was finally revealed to the world last week. This is the third generation of the smallest BMW crossover and it looks a lot better than the last one. It also comes with a lot of new tech, novel paint options, and refreshed engines, all of which are there to help the little Bimmer take down its chief rival, the Mercedes-Benz GLA. BMW has clearly put a lot of work into the car, but we won't get to fully evaluate its efforts until we get to drive it. Before that happens, it needs to be manufactured, and BMW is not wasting any time in this regard. BMW BMW BMW https://twitter.com/BMWGroup/status/1534097842138189826 The all-new X1 will be produced at the Regensburg factory in Germany where completed models are already rolling off the line. All four powertrain variants (gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric) are being built at the facility, including the new iX1 EV. The gasoline and diesel models are expected to arrive on the German market first, with a launch planned for October with the X1 xDrive25e and xDrive30e plug-in hybrids to follow in November. The iX1 EV will also go on sale in November, while 2023 will see the arrival of the first-ever M Performance X1, the X1 M35i that we spotted a few months back. BMW BMW For the time being, it appears that the US market will launch with just one model, the xDrive28i. This comes with a 2.0-liter turbo-four generating 241 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, up from 228 hp and 258 lb-ft in the old car. The old car's eight-speed auto has also been tossed in favor of a Magna-developed seven-speed dual-clutch system. This helps the crossover achieve 0-62 mph in 6.2 seconds, but we're crossing our fingers that this won't be the fastest X1 on offer. BMW has not revealed whether the M35i variant will be making its way to the US, but either way, BMW says the regular X1 is better to drive than ever. We'll know for sure soon enough.
