The First Production Volkswagen ID Buzz Has Left The Building

Buzz Cargo has already begun. Now, production of the passenger-focused Volkswagen ID. Buzz has just started. Josef Baumert, Chairman of the factory's works council, celebrated the start of production with factory employees. That plant, along with Zqickau and Emden, is Volkswagen's third electric vehicle production site in Germany. Each of those three sites produces cars from VW's ID. family, including models like the Buzz and ID. 4. "The start of serial production of the all-electric ID. Buzz is an important milestone in the electrification of our fleet," said Chairman of Brand Management, Carsten Intra. Now it's finally here, a moment that the staff at VWCV have worked hard towards over the past years." Volkswagen has spent the last several years converting the plant to accommodate the new Buzz, which will arrive on American shores for the 2024 model year. That includes the construction of a new body shop and a new section for the assembly of electrical parts on the factory line. "Over the last two years, the production facility has been continually prepared for the manufacture of the new all-electric vehicles, while the T6.1 and since last year the New Multivan have simultaneously been made here in Hannover", Baumert said. Both of those models, by the way, are for Europe only. However, VW will surely be making American-spec Buzz parts in Hannover, at least until production in the US starts up. Volkswagen Volkswagen Volkswagen Volkswagen Baumert also said that VW is making three different Bulli van vehicles (VW vans for those of you out of the loop on the lingo). Those three vans also have different drive systems. We're not sure what those are just yet, or what market they'll be for. It's safe to say one of those isn't a gas-powered Buzz. This year, the VWCV plant is set to produce 15,000 ID. Buzz models, with total production eventually scaling up to 130,000 cars per year. Critically, production of the Buzz, as well as its shipping to global markets like the Americas are carbon-offset, meaning that any carbon produced by moving these cars around is offset by VW itself.
