Dealers Want Six Figures For The Ford F-150 Lightning

May. 15, 2022 7:10 PM ET by Chase Bierenkoven Pricing / 20 Comments Shield your eyes, and your wallets. It was inevitable. The markups on the F-150 Lightning have begun. Despite a number of Ford moves to prevent markups, some are still slipping through the cracks. They're not hard to find either. Hop on carforsale.com or whichever site you use, and sort by highest price. They're there. We found two of the more egregious ones this way, but there are plenty more out there. This comes after CEO Jim Farley explicitly stated that dealers' allocations for cars would be cut if they tried to mark up Ford vehicles. Despite that, some have gone ahead anyway. The one below, from Ford of Thousand Oaks, was listed at $145,309 and is now listed with the message "call for price." Presumably, that's due to the attention that particular markup got, making the rounds on Twitter earlier this week. Ford Of Thousand Oaks CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Predictably, Ford of Thousand Oaks isn't alone in its quest for cash. Napa Ford/Lincoln also wants some serious moolah for its allocated F-150 Lightning, and without regard for the consequences. This dealer would like you to pay it a whopping $133,854 for a Platinum trim model. We found another that wanted a mildly more reasonable $106K for theirs, but the listing isn't up, so we'll not name names. By the way, the MSRP on that Platinum truck over at Napa Ford? It was $93,854. That translates to a $40,000 markup. That's more than enough to buy a Ford Bronco. Well, supposing those weren't still well above MSRP just about anywhere you look. Thankfully, you can still order one right from Ford, unlike the 2022 F-150 Lightning. Napa Ford/Lincoln CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz Of course, it's not like this issue is unique to Ford dealers. A Chevy dealer wants $100K over sticker for a Z06. 4Runner owners have even banded together to fight markups, making lists of who's marking up cars and where, as well as where you can buy models that aren't marked up. No matter how you slice it, Ford dealers marking up the first Lightnings to roll out of Dearborn isn't a good look. Farley promised these dealers would face consequences for doing so, and now we're waiting to see if that'll come to be. Given how publicized markups are at the moment, we can imagine both dealers will be getting a call from the Blue Oval soon. CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz CarBuzz
