BMW Shows Off Next-Gen M2 With M Performance Parts

BMW's smallest and most affordable M car has taken over where the M3 left off, offering a fun-to-drive package that isn't too heavy or overly complicated. Despite having the most in common with the German automaker's illustrious M catalog, the next-generation M2 won't be built in Germany. BMW has decided to build the sports car in Mexico but from what we've seen in teasers, spy shots, and leaks, the new M2 won't disappoint. In fact, BMW just gave us more reasons to get excited about the M2. A new teaser posted to the BMW M Instagram account shows a camouflaged M2 wearing M Performance parts. This is our first look at some of the available parts for the upcoming M car. https://www.instagram.com/p/CdVYNa9KxLc/ BMW M/Instagram BMW M/Instagram BMW M/Instagram These new images show off a different wheel pattern than we've seen previously. The bronze color reminds us of the outgoing M2 CS, while the intricate flower spoke patterns look similar to the current M3 and M4. We think they look fantastic. BMW also showed off an M Performance wing that sits higher than the stock spoiler. This may be a bit too "boy racer" for some customers, but from the angle shown, it reminds us of the E30 M3's wing, which would be a great throwback. Though it's not shown in this teaser, the M2 has been spotted with two exhaust layouts - a traditional four-tip arrangement, and an M Performance setup where the tips are stacked. CarBuzz BMW M/Instagram BMW M/Instagram BMW M/Instagram We expect the M2 to use the same S58 twin-turbocharged inline-six found in the M3 and M4, detuned to produce around 450 horsepower. Spy shots have only shown an automatic transmission, but the US market will reportedly get a six-speed manual option. As for the interior, it is rumored to feature the same available carbon bucket seats from the M3 and M4, still with that annoying bulge on the bottom.
