$2 8 Million Mercedes-AMG One Hypercar Comes With Free Gift

Jun. 11, 2022 1:44 PM ET by Chase Bierenkoven Offbeat / 3 Comments At that price, we'd expect a couple of freebies. When you shell out $2.8 million or so for a one-off, Formula 1-derived hypercar, you expect certain things. More than 1,000 hp? Absolutely. As little weight as possible? You bet. Your friend's best impression of Toto Wolff from the passenger seat? Sure, though you may tell Michael "that was so NOT right!" But free ear bud headphones? Probably didn't expect that. The few owners of the new Mercedes-AMG ONE will get a pair, courtesy of Sennheiser. Funnily enough, the headphone manufacturer also has a bit of history in F1. Sennheiser has in one way or another, supplied audio equipment to teams for some time. Back when Red Bull was partnered with Infiniti, the brand produced the headphones you see the team wearing on the pit wall. While there's a good chance Christian Horner has ripped off his Sennheisers in a fit of rage, lucky AMG ONE owners likely can't do the same. Sennheiser Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz That's largely because these are Sennheiser's Momentum True Wireless headphones, not the big over-ear ones you see on the pit wall. What's more, Sennheiser says these ones are special. They're apparently optimized "to augment the driving experience by enabling a joyful listening experience on the road and attenuate engine sound." Unfortunately, Sennheiser doesn't quite go into detail on what that audiophile jargon means. Supposing your AMG ONE is a tad loud for you, Sennheiser says these headphones will offer active noise-canceling tech, as well as a feature that'll let in ambient sound to help you hear what's going on around you. They'll last 28 hours thanks to a rechargeable battery case. Frankly, we find it humorous that Sennheiser will be throwing these down next to the keys of a $2.8 million hypercar, especially when you dig a little deeper. Currently, Sennheiser offers both TrueWireless 2 and TrueWireless 3 in-ear wireless ear buds with a 7mm transducer (that's the bit that takes electrical signals and turns them into sound). Those are priced at $250 USD and $200 respectively for the public to buy. Based on the look of them, these AMG ear buds are the lesser TrueWireless 2 models with special AMG branding on the case and buds themselves.

Someone who is paying nearly $3 million for a car can certainly afford the extra $50 for the better model, ignoring the fact these people will likely never use them on account of owning much more expensive headphones already.
Still, it's not as if the TrueWireless 2 is a bad set of ear buds. Most reviews indicate they're very, very good for their price point. They'll also be worth a ton of cash in ten years when these cars start showing up with the headphones included on the auction block. Sennheiser Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz
