by Aiden Eksteen Benefitting from the NX range update, hybrid and plug-in models in the Lexus stable are even more compelling options to consider for those seeking a comfortable family cruiser that ticks the boxes for safety, efficiency, and performance. The 2022 Lexus NX Hybrid 350h is the lineup's electrified offering that imbues the standard 2.5-liter gas engine with electric power for outputs of 240 horsepower while maintaining a combined gas mileage rating of 39 mpg. If you want more power and an all-electric driving range, consider the new 450h+, available in two trims, both delivering 304 h and 37 miles on a single charge, as well as a six-second run to 60 mph. But with popular alternatives like the Volvo XC60 Hybrid and the Audi Q5 Hybrid, which offer much better handling characteristics, is the NX Hybrid truly able to compete on equal footing?

Like the gas-powered NX, the NX Hybrid is substantially refreshed for 2022 and shows off some exterior enhancements, including full-width blade taillamps and rear badging. The grille has been updated, too, and inside the cabin, the NX range now boasts the new Lexus Interface multimedia system specifically designed for buyers in the United States and North America. A new optional 14-inch touchscreen has over-the-air updates, wireless charging, and wireless smartphone integration. Additionally, the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is now standard, which includes blind-spot monitoring, safe exit assist, and a digital latch system that prevents doors from being opened when cars are approaching from the rear. Plug-In Hybrid NX 450h+ models are all-new for 2022 and offer a 37-mile electric range and a combined system output of 302 hp. Pros and Cons

The NX range was in dire need of updating, so we're glad Lexus saw fit to substantially reinvigorate it. The benefits of refreshed styling and the much-improved infotainment system carry through to the hybrid options and make the Japanese SUV an even more compelling package than before. While the AWD 350h hybrids have 240 horsepower on tap from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine paired to two electric motors, the 450h+ plug-in variants have a combined output of 302 hp and a six-second sprint to 60 mph. Both these options offer better performance than the regular gas models and have the obvious fuel economy benefits that come with hybridization: the 350h manages 41/37/39 mpg while the plug-in variant has 84 MPGe and an all-electric range of 37 miles. As expected, the drive is quiet, although less engaging than some might like. But with superb safety reviews from the IIHS that resulted in a Top Safety Pick+ award for 2022, the NX Hybrid is worth a place on your shortlist of safe, comfortable, and efficient family cars. What s the Price of the 2022 Lexus NX Hybrid
The price of the 2022 Lexus NX Hybrid range in the USA starts with the base 350h at $41,050 with the 350h Premium increasing in cost to $44,100. The 350h Luxury has a sticker price of $48,500 MSRP. Plug-In Hybrid models are substantially more expensive, with the 450h+ Luxury priced at $55,550 and the F Sport derivative requiring an outlay of at least $56,900. These prices exclude options, licensing, registration, and a $1,575 destination fee. Check out other Lexus NX Styles
