The 2023 BMW i4 is yet to receive safety ratings from either the IIHS or NHTSA, but with so many other BMW products featuring on both agencies' top safety lists, we wouldn't worry about the safety of the i4. For example, the i4 shares a platform with the 3 Series and this sedan received a Top Safety Pick award for 2022 from the IIHS, along with a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. Despite not undergoing a crash test, the i4 should keep you and your family safe, thanks to many standard safety features. That includes a full consignment of airbags - including side curtain airbags - LED headlights, ABS, traction and stability control, front and rear park distance control, a rearview camera, and acoustic pedestrian protection. The brand's Active Driving Assistant groups together forward collision warning, automatic city collision mitigation and braking, active blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, and speed limit info. There is also an Active Protection System in place that prepares the car for imminent collisions by, for example, closing the windows. Fatigue and Focus Alert, meanwhile, is useful for longer periods behind the wheel. While the more basic dynamic cruise control is standard, active cruise control that with radar sensors is available optionally as part of the Driving Assistance Professional Package. This package also includes an evasion aid, front cross-traffic alert, active lane keeping assist with side collision avoidance, and an extended traffic jam assistant. Automatic parking assistance and a surround-view camera are grouped together in another package. 2022 BMW i4 models have been recalled twice. One issue was for a center display with missing information and the second problem - affecting 158 models - pertained to a fire risk that could be caused by a short-circuit in the high voltage battery. No recalls have yet affected 2023 models, so besides the fire risk, the BMW i4's reliability does not seem to be an issue early in its life. BMW will cover the i4 with a four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, a four-year/50,000-mile drivetrain warranty, and a three-year/36,000-mile maintenance plan. A separate 2023 BMW i4 warranty applies to the high-voltage battery, and this runs for eight years or 100,000 miles. Warranty

Is the BMW i4 a safe car
Despite not having any official ratings, the i4 is based on a proven platform and comes with all the essential safety features as standard. Therefore, we expect it to hold up well in the event of a crash. What are some standout driver-assistance features on the 2023 i4
We appreciate that the i4 comes with active blind-spot detection, forward collision warning, and lane departure warning as standard. However, the more advanced driver-assist systems with active cruise control will cost extra, as will the surround-view camera with 3D view.
