It takes a few seconds to install from the Goodies page on Pinterest.com. Once installed, the Pin It button appears on the bookmarks bar of any major web browser.

What Does the Pin It Button Do

The Pin It button is a bookmarklet, or little snippet of JavaScript code, creating a one-click bookmarking function. After it's installed, when you press the Save button on your browser's bookmarks bar, a script runs that lets you automatically "pin" or save images to personal image collections you have created on Pinterest.com. The Pinterest button, of course, is designed to let you bookmark images you find and like online while you are browsing other websites. Pressing the button saves a copy of any image you select and stores it, along with a copy of the image URL or address, back on Pinterest.com.

Using the Pinterest Button

When you visit a web page and press the Pinterest button in your browser's menu bar, you are immediately shown a grid of all the possible images on that web page that are available for pinning to your Pinterest boards. Simply select the image you want, and press Save. Next, you'll be shown a drop-down menu listing all your image boards on Pinterest. Select the down-arrow to see all your boards. Then choose the name of the board where you want to store the image you're pinning.

How to Install the Pinterest Button

Installing the Pinterest bookmarklet is pretty much as easy as pressing yet another button. Pinterest's page will automatically detect your web browser and display the download link for the right Pinterest extension. Press Get our Browser Button to go to your browser's extension/add-on store. Once you're on the Pinterest Browser Button page in your web browser's extension "shop," press whichever Add or Install button is available on the page to install the add-on. Follow the instructions to finish installing and enabling the add-on. As soon as the extension's installed, the Pinterest button will appear in the menu bar. Whenever you are visiting web pages, and press the Save button, you'll be able to grab an image and store it in one of your Pinterest boards. Pressing the button also grabs the original source code of images you're saving and creates a link to the original source. That way, anyone who clicks on your images on Pinterest can go to see them in their original context. Was this page helpful? Thanks for letting us know!
