While the PS3 might be an aging console, some folks find it important to be able to play their old favorites on their new favorite—the PS5. Here's a look at everything you need to know about PS5 backwards compatibility with the PS3 including what accessories are compatible with the PS5. Can I Play PS3 Games on Playstation 5
The short answer: Sort of. It's not possible to put a PS3 disc in your PS5 and for it to correctly load. The disc drive is unable to read the contents of the disc and simply won't work. However, there are other solutions that mean you can still play some PS3 games on PS5. One of the most prominent and simplest workarounds is to use PlayStation Plus. The higher tiers of the same membership that lets you play games online also include libraries with PS4, PS3, and PS2 titles. It's not comprehensive so some games you may wish to play might not be available on the service. Typically, the most popular games are available on the service so you might be out of luck if you want to play something relatively obscure. However, PlayStation Plus is the most straightforward method and the one Sony is encouraging the most amongst players that want to enjoy backwards compatibility. Alternatively, the PS5 can play nearly every PS4 game available. That makes it possible for you to purchase a PS4 remastered collection for some PS3 titles. Many remastered collections are available. These include the Uncharted Collection, God of War Collection, and a remastered edition of The Last of Us. Other non-Sony favorites such as BioShock and even Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare are available as PS4 remasters. It's worth checking to see if your favorite PS3 title has been remastered for the PS4 thereby allowing you to play it on the PS5. If you have a PS5 Digital Edition, you will need to buy the remastered collections from the PlayStation Store rather than purchase a physical disc, as the PS5 Digital Edition doesn't have a disc drive. Can I Use PlayStation 3 Accessories on PlayStation 5
For the most part, no. While the PS5 allows you to use a PS4 controller to play PS4 games, the PS5 isn't compatible with any PS3 controllers, even if you're playing a PS3 game. That's the case with both official Dual Shock 3 controllers and other licensed devices such as racing wheels. PS3-based Blu-ray disc remotes also don't work on the PS5 and nor do any cameras such as the PlayStation Eye. You are able to use a wired headset with the PS5 so if you've used one previously with the PS3, it remains compatible with the latest PS5. Was this page helpful? Thanks for letting us know!
