That said, there are some limitations to its water-resistance. Is the Fitbit Versa Waterproof or Water-Resistant
The Fitbit Versa, Versa 2, and Versa Lite all feature water resistance up to a depth of 50 meters. In other words, you can swim really deep (deeper than you'll likely want to go without special gear) without water getting into the watch. Technically, however, water resistance isn't the same thing as waterproof. A waterproof gadget would be truly impervious to water. You'd be able to take it into any situation with water without destroying it. But for virtually all electronics, the Fitbit Versa included, a bit of water getting inside is all it would take to kill it. Water-resistance doesn't make a device impervious to water, but it does help keep water away from the sensitive electronics inside. In the Fitbit Versa's case, the chassis is sealed up tight to prevent even high-pressure water from getting in. Fitbit Inc Fitbit Versa Water Pressure Limits
How much pressure can the Fitbit Versa withstand? The kind of pressure you'd find 50 meters deep in water, or five atmospheres worth. If you go deeper with the Fitbit Versa, the ever-increasing pressure is liable to push through the seals. Once inside, it can short out the electronics and kill the smartwatch. Depth is just one way of looking at water pressure. Plenty of other things can create high-pressure water, such as a showerhead or a pressure washer. Electronics with light water resistance might be able to stand up to some sprinkling rain, but the jet of water from a pressure washer could quickly flood the insides. In the case of the Fitbit Versa, 50m of resistance is a pretty high amount. It should be safe for swimming laps, showering, and washing your hands in the sink. There's one instance where you'll want to be especially careful: diving. When you hit the water while diving, the speed you enter the water can create a higher pressure situation, which can lead to water getting inside your device. Therefore, it's best to take off your Fitbit before going scuba diving, water skiing, or jumping off the high dive. If you change the band on your Fitbit Versa, it might not be water-resistant. You're safe with the silicone bands that come with the device, but if you switch to a fabric or leather band, those may not stand up to the water well. Fitbit Versa Water-Resistance Over Time
As rubber gaskets break down and seals get stretched out, all water-resistant devices are liable to lose some resistance over time. While your Fitbit Versa is still under warranty, you can count on it to meet the rated water resistance. After a couple of years, you may want to be more careful about how much water you expose it to. According to Fitbit, most water damaged trackers aren't covered under warranty. If your warranty has expired, you can try to fix your Fitbit on your own. Was this page helpful? Thanks for letting us know! Get the Latest Tech News Delivered Every Day Subscribe Tell us why!
