Chrome enables pop-up blocker by default, but this guide shows you how to disable it and allow pop-ups (or add site exceptions) on a Chrome desktop browser.
How To Allow Pop-ups in Chrome
The pop-up blocker is automatically on in Chrome desktop—but it can be disabled at any time to allow pop-ups universally. Not all pop-ups are bad. Allowing pop-ups can make for a better browsing experience and prevent interruptions to site functionality. Click the Customize and control Google Chrome (three vertical dots) to the right of the address bar and select Settings from the menu of options. Under Privacy and Security, click Site Settings. Scroll down to the Content section and select Pop-ups and redirects. Move the toggle next to Blocked to the right to change the setting to Allowed.
How To Block Pop-ups on Certain Sites
If you prefer to allow all pop-ups except on certain sites, you can do that by adding exceptions. Click Customize and control Google Chrome (three vertical dots) to the right of the url bar and then choose Settings in the menu. Look for the Privacy and Security section and select Site Settings. Under Content, select Pop-ups and redirects. Make sure the toggle is pushed to the right and is highlighted in blue and says Allowed. Next to Block, click the Add button. In the Add a site dialog box, add the site you’d like to block pop-ups from and click Add to save.
How To Allow Pop-ups From Specific Websites
If you prefer to keep pop-up blocker enabled but want to permit pop-ups from sites you trust, add sites to the Allow section in your pop-up settings. Click Customize and control Google Chrome (three vertical dots) to the right of the url bar and then choose Settings in the menu. Look for the Privacy and Security section and select Site Settings. Under Content, select Pop-ups and redirects. Make sure the pop-up blocker is enabled. The toggle should be pushed to the left so that it looks gray and says Blocked (recommended). Next to Allow, press Add. In the Add a site box, enter the website you’d like to allow pop-ups from. Click Add to save the site and enable pop-ups from that source.
How To Remove Pop-up Blocker Site Exceptions
If you change your mind about site exceptions, you can remove them. Click Customize and control Google Chrome (three vertical dots) next to the address bar and choose Settings. Scroll to the Privacy & Security section and select Site Settings. From the Content section at the bottom of the screen, select Pop-ups and redirects. To remove a blocked site, under Block click the three vertical dots next to the site name. Select Allow to permit pop-ups or Remove to delete it from the list. To remove an allowed site, under Allow click More actions (three vertical dots) next to the site and choose either Block or Remove. Was this page helpful? Thanks for letting us know!
