Here's a look at finding and installing Edge extensions to personalize and enhance your web browsing experience. The information in this article applies to the new Microsoft Edge Chromium-based browser for Windows 10 in addition to the legacy Edge browser.

Explore Edge Extensions

Extensions vary in purpose and usefulness. Some extensions do only one thing, such as block pop-up ads. These types of extensions work behind the scenes. Other extensions translate between languages, manage web passwords, or add quick access to Microsoft Office Online products. Some extensions facilitate online shopping or help with grammar and spelling. Extensions for the new Microsoft Edge Chromium-based browser are available from the Microsoft Edge Add-ons Store. Legacy Edge extensions are available from the online Microsoft Store. Here's how to browse the available extensions for Microsoft Edge: Go to the Microsoft Edge Add-ons Store. For the legacy Edge, go to the online Microsoft Store and search for Edge extensions. Select any extension to go to its Details page. Select the Back arrow to return to the extensions page and continue to explore possible Edge extensions.

Install Edge Extensions

After you find an extension you like, you're ready to install it. To install an Edge extension: Select Get on the Details page of the extension you want. If the app isn't free, follow the instructions to purchase it. Select Add Extension in the dialog box. Wait while the extension downloads and installs. You may need to sign in to some extensions. A message appears that indicates the extension was added to Microsoft Edge. You'll now see its icon in the Edge top menu bar.

Use Edge Extensions

Edge extensions appear as icons near the upper-right corner of the Edge window. Each extension has its own functionality. For example, once installed, the Grammarly extension works in the background. Other extensions require you to click them to use them. Some extensions work automatically behind the scenes, while some work only in specific situations. Others, like the Office extension, require you to log in to a service to use them.

Manage Edge Extensions

Some Edge extensions offer options and settings, and all extensions allow you to turn them off and on or remove them. To manage Edge extensions: Select the Settings and more icon (the three dots) in the upper-right corner of the Edge window. Select Extensions. Click the switch next to any extension to turn it on or off. Select Remove to remove the extension, then select Remove to continue. Select Details to see the extension's options. On the Details screen, review the permissions the extension has and customize options like which sites it can access. Was this page helpful? Thanks for letting us know!
