What Are Chrome Bookmarks

Bookmarking is a system that web browsers such as Chrome use to make it easier to find specific web pages. Instead of writing down a long universal resource locator (URL) or searching for a page every time, you can click a single button in Chrome to bookmark any web page for access later. If you end up with too many bookmarks to manage, you can organize them into folders or remove the ones you don't use frequently. Pras Boonwong / EyeEm

Why Delete Chrome Bookmarks

Chrome bookmarks are easy to create, either intentionally or accidentally. You may accidentally bookmark a page when trying to type a new URL, open a new tab, or interact with one of your plug-ins. When that happens, it's a good idea to remove the bookmark to avoid clutter immediately. The other reason to remove bookmarks is that they accumulate over time, and you can end up with an unmanageable mess of old bookmarks that you no longer need. If you're ready for a fresh start, remove all your bookmarks in one fell swoop.

How to Delete a Chrome Bookmark From the Web Page

There are two ways to delete a Chrome bookmark: from the bookmarked web page itself and using Chrome's Bookmarks manager. Going to the bookmarked web page provides the fastest way to remove a bookmark if you only have one or a few to remove. Here's how: Open the Chrome web browser on your computer and go to the web page you want to remove from your bookmarks. When the page opens, click or press the solid star at the right end of the URL bar. The star is solid on a bookmarked web page. If the star is hollow instead of solid, the page isn't bookmarked. In that case, clicking the star bookmarks the web page. Click Remove in the drop-down menu to delete the bookmark to the web page.

If you don't remember the URL of the bookmark you want to delete, you can find it in the Chrome Bookmarks manager. Here's how: Open Chrome and enter chrome://bookmarks/ in the URL field. If you don't see the bookmark while scrolling through the list, use the search box at the top of the Bookmarks manager to locate it. Click or tap the ⋮ (three dots) icon to the right of the bookmark you want to delete. You can also right-click the bookmark and delete it instead of clicking the ⋮ icon. Click or tap Delete in the pop-up menu. Repeat this process for each additional bookmark you want to delete.

This process can't be undone. If you have other bookmark folders to delete, click the next folder in the sidebar and repeat this process.
